I have been painting pumpkins at Brown's Harvest pumpkin patch for the past twnentyfive years. Every weekend in the fall you will find me at the farm painting special requests. Brown's has been supportive of my fundraising efforts to help my son Andrew to compete in the next Winter Paralympics. They have also raised money for the Springfield Shriners Hospital where Andrew has been a patient for the last eighteen years.
Last year we came up with an idea to make the hayrides wheelchair accessable and Brown's made the investment in a beautiful new ramp. It was a heartwarming sight this Saturday to see over thirty people in wheelchairs waiting to go on group hayride. The word seems to be spreading about the ramp as I saw more young children in chairs with their families enjoying the farm. Everyone should be able to participate in the simple things that most of us take for granted.
